8 New International Flights Launching From the US This Fall

Portland, Oregon, to Amsterdam with KLM

Travelers based on the West Coast will have a new option for visiting one of Europe’s most popular cities when Dutch carrier KLM launches its new route between Amsterdam and Portland, Oregon, on October 27. While most travelers envision an Amsterdam trip in the spring for tulip season, the autumn months offer benefits like fewer crowds, pleasant temperatures, and beautiful foliage. The nonstop route will operate three times per week in the winter and five times weekly during summer. KLM is known for its generous premium economy class, but upgrading to business class will mean a lie-flat seat and receiving one of the airline’s iconic Delft house figurines.

Minneapolis to St. Maarten with Delta

Escape the cold fall temperatures of the Upper Midwest with Delta’s new route from Minneapolis to St. Maarten, launching December 19. The seasonal route will operate twice weekly (Thursdays and Saturdays) on the airline’s Boeing 757-200 planes, outfitted with First Class, Comfort Plus, and Main Cabin seats. The new route is part of Delta’s largest-ever Latin schedule operating out of Minneapolis-St. Paul, which will also see flights to Aruba, Grand Cayman, and Puerto Rico this autumn. Once you’re wheels-down, check into one of the many luxury resorts like Belmond’s La Samanna, located on the French side of the island.

Providence to San Juan with JetBlue

New Englanders will soon have a new option for visiting sunny Puerto Rico, as JetBlue plans to launch a new route between Providence, Rhode Island, and San Juan on October 27. The nonstop route will operate a daily flight on Airbus A320 planes that offer the carrier’s Even More Space and Core seats—JetBlue’s version of extra legroom and regular economy. The carrier’s Mint business class will not be available on the route. Keep in mind that hurricane season is a concern for Puerto Rico through November, but December is the start of good weather and peak tourism season.

Dallas to Nadi, Fiji, with Fiji Airways

Fiji Airways will launch its longest route ever when it begins a nonstop flight between Dallas and Nadi, Fiji, on December 10. The historic new flight will be about 13 hours long and will stretch 6,625 miles. That long duration shouldn’t bother passengers, however. The airline plans to use its Airbus A350-900 planes to operate the three-times-weekly route. That aircraft features the airline’s comfortable business class cabin, with lie-flat seats and Fijian cuisine. The new route will take off just in time for US travelers to spend the holiday season exploring Fiji’s hundreds of islands, which offer lush jungles, rugged mountains, and some of the most pristine beaches in the world.
