May 1 (UPI) — U.S. private payrolls were up in April, according to payroll processing company ADP’s monthly report released Wednesday.
ADP reported the United States added 192,000 private sector jobs in April, up from 184,000 initially reported in March.
“Hiring was broad-based in April,” ADP Chief Economist Nela Richardson said. “Only the information sector — telecommunications, media, and information technology — showed weakness, posting job losses and the smallest pace of pay gains since August 2021.”
Job creation was led by the service sector with 145,000 new jobs created. Goods production added 47,000 jobs in April.
Worker pay gains on an annual basis in April were 9.3% for people who changed jobs and 5% for workers who stayed. Pay gains for construction workers who stayed was the highest at 5.9%.
By region, ADP said the South added 124,000 jobs. The Northeast created 36,000 while the Midwest and West created 33,000 and 11,000 respectively.
Big companies with more than 500 employees added 98,000 jobs.
Medium sized companies followed with 62,000 while small business with fewer than 50 employees created 38,000 jobs.
ADP’s March original private sector jobs report showed 184,000 new jobs with the service sector also leading job creation then.
Wednesday’s report revised that number upward to 208,000 for March.
Worker pay gains on an annual basis in March were 5.1%, according to ADP.
According to ADP, private sector job reports are based on actual payroll data of more than 25 million workers using the company’s payroll data.
