Sha’Carri Richardson overcame a slow start Saturday to qualify for the Olympic 100-meter final later that night despite finishing second to Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia. In a race featuring the two fastest Olympians in the field this year, Alfred finished in 10.84 seconds, a full body length and .05 seconds ahead of the reigning world champion.
US rolls into Olympic quarterfinals as No. 1 seed, top Puerto Rico 104-83 in group finale
Halfway to its goal of gold, the U.S. has the No. 1 seed going into the medal round at the Paris Olympics. And now the real games start. Washington Spirit’s Trinity Rodman scored in extra time and the United States advanced to the women’s soccer semifinals at the Olympics with a 1-0 victory over Japan. The U.S. will face the winner of the later match between Germany and Canada in Marseille. The U.S. beat Germany 4-1 in the group stage. Rodman’s goal to the top of the far post came as time in stoppage time in the first extra period. She fell to the field as she was embraced by her teammates in celebration.
Simone Biles captures her seventh Olympic gold medal by winning women’s vault for a second time
Simone Biles earned her seventh Olympic gold medal, soaring to victory in the women’s vault final. The 27-year-old Biles averaged 15.300 for her signature Yurchenko double pike and Cheng vaults to claim a second gold on the event eight years after she triumphed in Rio de Janeiro. Biles now has 10 Olympic medals in her career, seven of them gold.
