2024 USA Strongman Championships Preview | BarBend
The 2024 USA Strongman Championships, held on Sept. 28, 2024, in Las Vegas, NV, will feature the 2024 World Deadlift Championships as the first event. Athletes will attempt to eclipse the heaviest deadlift ever pulled, 502 kilograms. The other four events are the Car Walk, Dumbbell Press, Wrecking Ball Hold, and Castle Stones.
Are any of the 16 elite strongmen competing capable of locking out 505 kilograms on the deadlift bar? Giants Live promoter Colin Bryce told BarBend he believes it’s possible. Below are the athletes competing in Sin City:
2024 USA Strongman Championships Roster
Lucy Underdown will participate in the World Deadlift Championships in an effort to break her current record of 700-pound strongwoman deadlift world record.
Strongman Robert Oberst will serve as the event’s M.C. Special guests, including seven-time 212 Olympia champion Flex Lewis and powerlifter Larry Wheels, among others, are slated to attend.

Who’s The Frontrunner?
To place a bet on anyone other than Mitchell Hooper to win this contest is likely an error. He has been the most consistent strongman among the elite class for the past two years.
Since his eighth-place debut on the world stage at the 2022 World’s Strongest Man (WSM) contest, Hooper has not yet missed a podium. He has won every major contest there is to win in the sport, including the WSM (2023), the Arnold Classic twice (2022-23), the Rogue Strongman Invitational (2023), the Strongest Man on Earth (2024), and a handful of Giants Live contests.
Tom Stoltman is likely Hooper’s biggest contender, as Stoltman is the most recent athlete to best Hooper. Stoltman won his third WSM title over Hooper in 2024. However, Stoltman has to bounce back from his seventh-place finish at the 2024 Strongest Man on Earth.
Evan Singleton’s results have fallen hard since his bronze finish at the 2024 WSM contest. A last-place rank at the 2024 Strongman Classic, a sixth-place finish at the 2024 Strongest Man on Earth, and a fourth-place rank and the 2024 World Tour Open are under what Singleton likely expects of himself. We’ll likely see the fire within him in Vegas.
Trey Mitchell and Luke Stoltman are unlikely to achieve ranks they would typically be capable of due to relatively recent injuries. Mitchell tore his Achilles in November 2023 but returned to competition faster than expected. Luke Stoltman tore his biceps in May 2024.
Mathew Ragg continues to be a dark horse pick for the top of the podium. He has the static strength to lift with the best in the world and will surely prove that his fourth-place finish at the 2024 WSM contest was no fluke but rather a sign of what’s to come.
