This is important news for lakhs of employees working in the private sector. Till now, companies used to give yearly increment on the basis of work in the private sector but now this trend is changing. Companies have started giving importance to physical fitness in increment. According to a report by ET, a new trend of salary hike based on fitness has started in Indian companies. Companies are giving about 10% weightage to the physical fitness of the employee in the yearly increment. This includes activities like weight loss by the employee, regular exercise, yoga, better nutrition, better sleep and quitting bad habits like smoking. That is, if an employee is fit, his salary will increase more. On the other hand, the salary of a sick or unfit employee will increase less.

This new trade started in these companies

According to the report, many companies like Deutsche Bank, Aditya Birla Health Insurance, Upgrade, Philips, Thales and Meesho are including physical fitness reviews in increments. Not only this, companies are also running many programs to keep their employees fit, which includes wellness sessions for better mental balance, heart health assessment, etc. Many companies are providing facilities to employees from onsite diet to nutrition consultant. However, the privacy of the employees is being taken care of in this.

Aditya Birla Health Insurance launched

Aditya Birla Health Insurance has started evaluating increments based on physical fitness. According to the company, effective from FY25, all employees will now be required to include at least one health goal in their key KRAs. Company managers will engage with team members for regular discussions about progress on health goals, and employees’ health metrics will be monitored through comprehensive tests and digital assessments.

Increased awareness in companies about health

A survey conducted by insurtech firm Plum earlier this year found that companies providing comprehensive healthcare services have grown by 110%. In such a situation, if you are also employed, then start keeping yourself fit. If you want a good salary, then you have to stay healthy along with doing good work. If you just work and do not stay healthy, then you will not get a good hike in salary.
