Mega Moolah slot review – all you need to play the Mega Moolah slot!

There are plenty of Mega Moolah slot reviews out there, but this one uncovers a few secrets about the game.

That’s right, as well as giving you my honest take on why it’s one of the best casino games online, I’ll reveal a Mega Moolah secret most people don’t know about. With that being said, here’s my definitive Mega Moolah review and a list of the best UK casinos I played it at.

Main Mega Moolah features

Progressive jackpots make Mega Moolah one of the best slots online, but they’re not the only features of note.

⭐ Mega Moolah special rounds & mini-games

Mega Moolah has a variety of special features, including a free spins bonus round. Wilds are an interesting aspect of this game because they substitute for other symbols and act as prize multipliers.

Wild symbols are particularly powerful during the Mega Moolah bonus round because they multiply payouts by three. I’ll explain this in more detail later. For now, just know that three monkey symbols (scatters) trigger the Mega Moolah free spins bonus. You’ll get 15 gratis turns, and, as I’ve said, all wild wins are multiplied by three.

🎨 Mega Moolah theme & graphics

I couldn’t write a Mega Moolah review and not talk about its overarching theme. The game is set somewhere in the plains of Africa. Silhouettes of trees give the background a sense of life while the sun casts a golden glow over the gameboard.

From a purely aesthetic perspective, Mega Moolah slots aren’t the most appealing. That’s to be expected from a game that was released in 2006. But, despite being less visually complex than modern online slots, I like Mega Moolah’s old-school charm.

🎰 Mega Moolah paylines and symbols

The Mega Moolah slot machine has five reels. These reels are filled with Africa’s finest animals that arrange themselves from left to right across a matrix of 25 paylines. Each Mega Moolah slot symbol has its own value, so I’ve listed them in ascending order below:

  • Card symbols (10, J, Q, K, A)
  • The Antelope
  • The Zebra
  • The Giraffe
  • The Buffalo (match two or more to win)
  • The Elephant (match two or more to win)
  • The Lion (the wild symbol and jackpot symbol)
  • The Monkey (scatter symbol)

The way to win when you play Mega Moolah is simple: you match symbols. In most cases, you’ll need to match at least three animals to win a prize. However, if you’re lucky enough to spot buffaloes and elephants on your slot-based safari, you’ll only need to match two of them to collect cash prizes.

Lions give the slot Mega Moolah some bite

Lions laud it over the animal kingdom, which is why these apex predators are also kings of the Mega Moolah gameboard. In the first instance, lions are wild (in every sense), which means they substitute for all other symbols except monkeys.

As well as being wild, lions are the Mega Moolah jackpot symbol. Two or more unlock payouts worth between 15 and 15,000 coins. That’s a big enough jackpot to match any of the best online casino games out there, including popular offerings such as Starburst Extreme and Red Hot Slingo.

Just to make it completely clear that lions are more than kings of the jungle, the developers at Games Global have turned them into multipliers. Any winning combination that contains lions is worth double. Any winning combination that contains lions is worth triple during the Mega Moolah free spins bonus round.

I won’t pretend the fixed payouts are the reason I play this slot. As I’ve said multiple times in this Mega Moolah slot review, we all go on a virtual safari in search of progressive jackpots. So, what’s really interesting about this game is that none of the symbols I’ve spoken about unlock the Mega Moolah jackpot game, as I’ll explain in a few moments.

🎮 Mega Moolah software developer

I first played Mega Moolah in 2010, four years after its release. At that time, Microgaming received the plaudits for creating a record-breaking jackpot slot. Anyone taking a spin on Mega Moolah today will know it as a Games Global slot. Did Games Global buy the re-release Mega Moolah? Is the game I’m reviewing a sequel?

The answer is that Games Global bought Microgaming’s portfolio in 2022. Therefore, it’s still a Microgaming product, but it’s now part of Games Global’s network of software providers. The game itself hasn’t changed, but Mega Moolah now sits alongside more than 1,300 online casino games, including progressive jackpot slots such as Sisters of Oz WowPot.

Being aligned with a mega-brand like Games Global has also given Mega Moolah a new lease of life. Specifically, you can now play a variety of Mega Moolah spin-offs. As well as slots, such as Mega Moolah Immortal Romance and Absolootly Mad Mega Moolah, you can play for £1 million+ progressive jackpots in Roulette Mega Moolah.

🧮 Mega Moolah RTP and volatility

I’ve got some good news and some bad news when it comes to Mega Moolah’s vital statistics. Don’t worry because the positives outweigh the negatives, but I need to discuss the RTP and volatility values to make this clear.

Mega Moolah slot RTP

The Mega Moolah slot’s RTP is 88.12%. If you’ve read any of my other online slot reviews, you’ll know that’s a low theoretical return rate. I can’t pretend it’s an attractive RTP or that I wouldn’t increase it. What I will say, though, is that progressive jackpot slots almost always have lower RTP scores than their fixed-payout counterparts.

There are some exceptions to this rule, such as Winstar and Mega Fortune. However, in general, jackpot slots have lower RTP values because their payout potential is much greater. So, even though I’d like Mega Moolah’s RTP to be higher, the positives far outweigh this relatively small negative.

Mega Moolah slot volatility

One of the positives I’ve just alluded to is Mega Moolah’s volatility rating. Medium volatility slots are, in my opinion, the perfect compromise in terms of payout frequency and value. For context, low-volatility slots pay prizes more frequently than high-volatility slots, on average.

In contrast, high volatility slots pay less frequently, but the average value of each prize is much higher. The Mega Moolah casino slot offers the best of both worlds. You have the potential to win on a fairly regular basis, and the average value of each prize is enough to keep you ticking over.

That, for me, is important because the reason we all play Mega Moolah is its progressive jackpot. Therefore, if you’ve got a shot at winning regular prizes, the chances are you’ll be able to play (responsibly) for longer which, in turn, gives a better chance of triggering the jackpot game.

💰 Minimum and maximum wager and win on Mega Moolah

The minimum bet for Mega Moolah is 0.25 coins (aka £0.25). That’s higher than the industry average, but I’ll refer you back to my previous point about the positives outweighing the negatives. Yes, you have to pay slightly more to play, but the payout potential is far beyond that of any other slot.

The maximum bet for Mega Moolah is 6.25 coins (aka £6.25), which is lower than the majority of slots online. That’s great because it means you don’t have to risk over £100 per spin to play for seven-figure jackpots. You should always play responsibly, so only set the bet counter to £.625 per spin if you can afford it. If you can afford it, however, I recommend betting the maximum. I’ll explain why in the final part of this Mega Moolah slots review.

⚙️ Mega Moolah’s most important rules and settings

Mega Moolah’s software is designed with all players in mind. What I mean by this is that everyone has a chance to win a progressive jackpot. Before I explain how, let’s talk prizes. This online slot has four progressive jackpots:

  • Mini Jackpot – £10 seed amount
  • Minor Jackpot – £100 seed amount
  • Major Jackpot – £10,000 seed amount
  • Mega Jackpot – £1 million seed amount

The prizes quoted are seed amounts, which means they’re minimum payouts. Obviously, because they’re progressive jackpots, the values increase over time. What’s more, because £1 million is a higher seed amount than a lot of jackpot slots, Mega Moolah has broken multiple records.

In fact, to date, Mega Moolah has paid out well in excess of £100 million in Mega Jackpots. The average win, as of 2024, is £6 million, and the biggest payout at the time of writing this Mega Moolah slot review was £20 million.

The reason everyone has a shot at winning is because the jackpot game is triggered at random. You don’t need to roll in a specific combination of symbols or bet a certain amount. As long as you make real-money bets (i.e. don’t play the Mega Moolah demo slot), you can trigger the jackpot game.

If you’re lucky enough to trigger the jackpot game, you’ll get to spin the prize wheel. As you’d expect, there are more mini jackpot segments than minor and so on. The pointer determines the amount you win. So, if the wheel lands on the Mega Jackpot segment, you’ll win at least £1 million.

⚖️ Mega Moolah compared with the top UK slots

I’m a big fan of the NetEnt slot game library, which means I’ll always take a spin on Starburst and Immortal Romance. I’ve also got a fascination with fishing slots, so Big Bass Bonanza is another go-to game.

As great as these slot games are, they can’t match the payout potential of Mega Moolah. Therefore, I won’t base my comparison on this feature alone. What I will do, however, is give you my take on how the Mega Moolah casino slot compares to Starburst and Big Bass Bonanza in terms of betting limits, volatility, and prizes.

🎁 Best bonuses for Mega Moolah

I prefer playing Mega Moolah slots at these three casinos because they have bonuses that give you more value each time you spin.

talkSPORT BET Casino

There are two reasons I play Mega Moolah at talkSPORT BET Casino. The first reason is based on bonuses. Newbies get £20 when you wager £10, so that’s an excellent offer for anyone who wants to play jackpot slots like Mega Moolah. I also love the Slots Saloon promotion that gives you up to 100 free spins when you wager £30 on slots, including Mega Moolah.

The second reason I like talkSPORT BET Casino is the fact that it has a variety of Mega Moolah slots. Alongside the main game, you can play spin-offs such as ThunderStruck II Mega Moolah, Mega Moolah Goddess, and Juicy Joker Mega Moolah.

Casumo Casino

The Casumo Casino welcome bonus is a 100% deposit match with 50 spins on Big Bass Bonanza thrown into the mix. The bonus credits can be used on slots, which means you can play Mega Moolah without risking your own money.

Another reason Casumo Casino is ideal for Mega Moolah fans, other than the fact you can play a Megaways version of this game, is the fact that there are new bonuses every day. From personalised promotions to daily deals, there’s always a way to get something extra when you spin.

Mega Riches

It’s worth playing Mega Moolah at Mega Riches Casino because of the Wheel of Riches promotion. As per the terms of the promotion, Experience Points (XP) are based on a game’s RTP. Basically, the lower a game’s RTP, the more XP you’ll earn per £1 wagered.

As I said earlier in this Mega Moolah review, the game’s RTP is 88.12%, which is lower than most slots. Therefore, if you play this game at Mega Riches Casino, you’ll earn XP faster than you would with other slots. These points get you spins on the Wheel of Riches, which contains three progressive jackpots.

❓ FAQ about Mega Moolah

Before I reveal my Mega Moolah secret, let’s wrap things up with a final recap of the game’s main qualities.

1. Can I use free spins on Mega Moolah at UK online casinos?

You won’t be able to use free spins on Mega Moolah at most UK online casinos, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use this game to unlock bonuses. For example, if you play Mega Moolah at Mega Riches Casino, you’ll earn Experience Points that allow you to spin the Wheel of Riches and, potentially, win one of three progressive jackpots.

2. Can I play Mega Moolah for free?

Yes, you can play Mega Moolah for free at some UK online casinos, but not all of them. This is a progressive jackpot game, which means a lot of casinos don’t offer a Mega Moolah demo slot. However, some of our recommended online casino sites, including talkSPORT BET and Casumo, do have a free-play version of Mega Moolah.

3. Is Mega Moolah compatible with playing on mobile?

Yes, you can play the Mega Moolah slot game on any device, including iOS and Android smartphones. In fact, what’s great about this game is the fact that it has a simple design. This means it looks and performs equally well on desktop devices and mobiles.

🧠 My top tip for playing Mega Moolah

The secret to getting maximum value from slot Mega Moolah is bet sizing. Now, I’ll add the caveat that betting responsibly should always be your priority. However, if you stick to the principles of responsible gambling and don’t deviate from your personal limits, I recommend betting the maximum.

This tip is based on the fact that your chances of triggering the jackpot game are affected by the amount you stake. The impact of your bet size is only small, so don’t stress if you’re unable to make a max wager. However, you do have a slightly better chance of hitting a progressive jackpot based on your bet size. Therefore, if you want to give yourself the best chance of winning a Mega Moolah jackpot, you should bet the max when you play Mega Moolah at our favourite online casinos.
