Romanians will travel visa-free to the United States starting March 31

Romania was officially designated on Friday as the 43rd country to join the United States Visa Waiver Program. Starting March 31st this year, Romanians can travel to the USA without visas.

The Ambassador of Romania to the United States of America, Andrei Muraru, announced on Friday that the American Government officially confirmed Romania’s accession to the Visa Waiver program, as reported by News.ro.

„Dear Romanians at home and Romanians in America, the federal government of the United States has just officially announced that Romania is now part of the exclusive club called Visa Waiver. Starting March 31st this year, Romanians can travel to the USA without visas. This is obviously an important and happy moment for all Romanians, and the decision of the United States shows how strong the bond between Romania and the USA has become over time. Romania’s Euro-Atlantic path has been paved with successes when Romania and Romanians were put first. This is the meaning of today’s announcement,” stated Andrei Muraru on Friday.

He added that, beyond the certain economic and security benefits, Romanians who wish to travel to America can now do so much easier, faster, and cheaper. Therefore, Romanians no longer have to wait for months for an appointment, no longer have to undergo an interview, and no longer have to pay a substantial fee.

The Ambassador of the United States of America in Romania, Kathleen Kavalec, stated that approvals for visa-free travel to the USA will be processed online, usually in less than 3 days, as reported by Mediafax.

Therefore, after Romania’s inclusion in Visa Waiver, most Romanian travelers visiting the United States for business or tourism purposes will no longer need to go in person to obtain a physical visa at the embassy or consulate.

„Instead, approvals for visa-free travel will be processed online, usually in less than three days. This will save time and money for Romanians traveling to the USA and will reduce barriers for Romanian companies wishing to partner with American companies.

Romanians can now more easily take advantage of last-minute travel offers to the USA, for holidays, concerts, shows, and sporting events. This program will also facilitate travel for important life celebrations with friends and loved ones in the USA, such as births, baptisms, graduations, and weddings,” stated Kathleen Kavalec.

It will take some time for the necessary systems to be operational for Romanian travelers: „In the coming weeks, we will announce the exact date when the online Visa Waiver system will come into effect,” she specified.
