All New York City-area airports report delays, cancelations amid global IT outage
NEW YORK (WABC) — Major disruptions were reported by airlines across the globe after a worldwide IT outage from CrowdStrike.
Just before 4:30 p.m., the major New York City-area airports reported 1,254 flights delayed and 479 canceled.
The Port Authority warned that customers should not head to the airport unless their flight status is confirmed.
Frustrated passengers spoke out about the vacations, class reunions, conferences and weddings they were worried about missing.

After flights started to resume, airlines were still playing a game of catch-up which will likely lead to more delays throughout the day.

All three area airports had hundreds of delays and cancelations.
Newark reported average arrival delays of around 1 hour 26 minutes and average departure delays around 1 hour and 50 minutes.

More than half of all flights at LaGuardia were delayed. The airport reported average inbound delays around 1 hour 47 minutes and average departure delays of around 1 hour and 6 minutes.
And JFK reported 15 minute delays for both arriving and departing flights.

By noon, there were no ground stops in effect for airlines in the United States. That comes after American Airlines, United and Delta asked the FAA for global ground stop on all flights overnight.
Airlines like United, Delta and American have issued travel waivers to the passengers. However, Spirit and Sun Country airlines said that they are not able to rebook travelers as their systems are down.

Newark Liberty International Airport
The U.S. Department of Transportation said in a post on X that they are monitoring the technical issues impacting airlines. They are also reminding travelers that they have “flight rights,” which is a tool that is meant to help consumers navigate airlines’ responsibilities for passengers.
