BP will sell its onshore wind business in the United States (1.3 GW)
The UK oil and gas company BP has announced its plans to sell its existing onshore wind energy business, BP Wind Energy, in the United States. Citing a conflict with the company’s growth plan, BP plans to start selling its 10 operating onshore wind power assets spread across seven US states, with a combined net generating capacity of 1.3 GW (1.7 GW gross). All wind assets are grid-connected and are already providing power to a range of offtakers. The company intends to sell BP Wind Energy as an integrated business to be transferred to the new owner upon sale completion.
The assets in question are the following: 288 MW Fowler Ridge-1, 99 MW Fowler Ridge-3 (100%-owned) and 200 MW Fowler Ridge 2 (50%-owned) in Indiana; fully-owned 44 MW Flat Ridge 1 and 470 MW Flat Ridge 2 in Kansas; 25 MW Titan (100%) in South Dakota; and its 50% stakes in 248 MW Cedar Creek 2 (Colorado), 141 MW Mehoopany (Pennsylvania); 21 MW Auwahi (Hawaii) and 125 MW Goshen 2 (Idaho).
The divestment is part of BP’s strategy to simplify its portfolio and focus on the growth of its solar power developer joint venture, Lightsource bp, since it expects to take full ownership of the subsidiary by the end of 2024.
