College football bowl projections: Updated picks for CFP, every bowl game in 2024-25 | Sporting News
How much will change on conference championship weekend?
There are 82 FBS teams that are bowl eligible, and they fit perfectly into the new Bowl Season. There are 35 bowls outside the 12-team College Football Playoff field. Now, who is going to move around this weekend? The Big 12, ACC and Mountain West Conference championship games could alter the composition of the playoff field and impact our final bowl projections for the 2024-25 college football season.
The final College Football Playoff rankings will be unveiled Sunday. Sporting News will update these projections throughout the weekend leading up to the first 12-team playoff field on Dec. 8. We will have a bowl tracker file when the announcements come in on Sunday.

The first round of the new CFP will have one game on Friday, Dec. 20, and three on Saturday, Dec. 21. The quarterfinals will be played at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl (Dec. 31), Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl (Jan. 1), Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential (Jan. 1) and Allstate Sugar Bowl (Jan. 1).
The semifinals will be played at the Capital One Orange Bowl (Jan. 9) and Cotton Bowl Classic (Jan. 10). The CFP national championship is Monday, Jan. 20 in Atlanta.
