DU coach David Carle leads United States to second straight gold at World Juniors | Colorado Sunshine

Where the good news shines

All University of Denver hockey coach David Carle does is win.

On Sunday, though, the win was a bit tougher.

His United States team fell behind 3-1 before rallying to force overtime and win 4-3 over Finland in the gold medal game of the IIHF World Juniors Championship in Ottawa. Teddy Stiga scored the winner with an assist from DU defensemen Zeev Buium.

That’s back-to-back gold medals for Carle at the World Juniors. He and Buium also won the 2024 NCAA championship with the Pioneers and are ranked in the top 10 this season.

Stiga took a breakaway pass from Buium and beat Finland goalie Petteri Rimpinen between the pads at 8:04 of overtime. It is the first time the Americans have won back-to-back gold.
