Eva Longoria admits she moved her family out of ‘dystopian’ US
Eva Longoria has officially left life in the United States behind, and has no plans to retain any sort of permanent residence there again after Donald Trump won the election and a second term in the White House.
The actress/producer/director, who is known for her sleek sense of fashion, made no qualms about who she supported in the election, supporting the Democratic ticket even before it was fronted by Kamala Harris, by mobilizing Latina women to vote for Joe Biden earlier this year, switching her support to Harris after Biden dropped out.
However, she also left a life in Hollywood behind, choosing to take her son to live in both Mexico and Spain in the spring to keep him from being ‘sucked in.”
Now, she has opened up more about what led her to the decision to leave and spend less time in the U.S., and admitted that the results of the 2024 election, which saw Trump clinch a second term in the White House and Republicans seizing control of all three branches of government,
She shared her comments in an interview with Marie Claire Magazine.
“I had my whole adult life here,” she said. “But even before [the pandemic], it was changing, The vibe was different. And then Covid happened, and it pushed it over the edge. Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to s–t on California–it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”
She also acknowledged her “privilege” that she was able to split her time now between Spain and Mexico, something most Americans can’t do, and admitting it made her feel sad for those who were going to be stuck in the U.S. with no escape from Trump policies.
“I’m privileged,” she said. “I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”
