Eva Longoria’s clarification on leaving US, says she didn’t move out because of Trump’s win
Eva Longoria is making her comments clear. Last week, the Desperate Housewives star shocked her fans and followers when she revealed that she had moved out of the ”dystopian” United States.
The big revelation comes a few weeks after Republican Donald Trump was re-elected as the 47th President of the United States. This led many to think that Longoria, who is a Democrat, has left the country because of Trump’s win in the US election of 2024.
Longoria clarifies her remark about moving out of the US
After the news of Longoria shifting her family out of the US took the internet by storm, the actress quickly clarified her remark saying that she has moved out of the country because of her work and Trump’s win has nothing to do with it.
To clarify her point, the actress called her friend Ana Navarro, host of The View: Behind the Table podcast.
Talking to her friend, Longoria said, as per THR, ”Will you please let them know I didn’t move out of Spain because of [Donald] Trump.”
“I’ve been in Europe working for almost three years,” Longoria explained. “By the way, the [Marie Claire] article says that. People just grabbed some clickbait stuff to be divisive, which makes me so sad, you know. Everything you say is just meant to be divisive when we can’t be that way right now.”
Navarro added that her friend “had moved before Trump” got re-elected.
During her interview with Marie Claire, the actress said that she along with her husband José Bastón, and their son, 6-year-old Santiago has moved out of the United States and has found a new home in Spain and Mexico.
However, while talking to Navarro, Longoria said that she moved out of the US due to her work and not because of the political environment.
“Yeah, I mean being away from the constant 24-hour news cycle puts you in a bit of a bubble, for sure,” Longoria said before adding, “That’s why I’m in Europe. I didn’t leave because of the political environment. I left because my work took me there.”
What did Longoria say earlier?
Speaking on Marie Claire’s Age Issue, Longoria said that despite spending her “whole adult life” in LA, the actress said that something changed in the city and country.
“The vibe was different,” she explains, “and then Covid happened, and it pushed it over the edge. Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to s–t on California — it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”
“I’m privileged,” she adds later. “I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”
Talking about Trump’s win, she said, “The shocking part is not that he won. It’s that a convicted criminal who spews so much hate could hold the highest office.”
Expressing her fears about Trump’s tenure, the actress said that the country “is a scary place,” she continues. “If he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place.”
