for KING + COUNTRY’s Joel Smallbone Brings His Family’s Story to Screen in Unsung Hero Trailer (Exclusive)

Joel Smallbone is taking his family’s story to the big screen.

On Tuesday, Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company shared the brand-new trailer — exclusive to PEOPLE – for for KING & COUNTRY‘s new movie Unsung Hero, a film that traces his family’s real-life move to the United States from Australia in the 1990s.

Joel, 39, stars in the movie as his own father David Smallbone, who moves to Nashville in 1991 with his seven children and wife (Daisy Betts). As the family struggles to establish themselves in a new country, their daughter Rebecca St. James begins receiving attention for her impressive singing ability.

The entire Smallbone family then bands together to help keep the family financially afloat, shown raking leaves and doing yardwork together to make money. Their hard work eventually pays off; Rebecca’s career grows until she is a popular recording artist.

The trailer even cheekily teases fame to come for for KING + COUNTRY members Joel and his brother Luke Smallbone, shown as children in the film, telling their father that they want a record deal too.
