Katie Ledecky becomes the most decorated American female Olympian of all time in any sport

PARIS (Gray News) – United States swimmer Katie Ledecky just became the most decorated American female Olympian of all time in any sport.

On Thursday, Ledecky and her American teammates took home a silver medal in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay final. Australia won gold and China won bronze.

It marks Ledecky’s 13th Olympic medal, making history as the most-decorated American female Olympian of all time in any sport.

Ledecky surpasses former USA Olympic swimmers Dara Torres, Natalie Coughlin, and Jenny Thompson, who all have 12 Olympic medals, AP reports.

Of her 13 Olympic medals, eight are gold.

On Wednesday, Ledecky won her 12th Olympic medal when she took gold in the women’s 1500m freestyle final. She finished more than 10 seconds ahead of anyone else in the field.

Ledecky’s 11th Olympic medal came earlier this week in Paris when she won bronze in the women’s 400m freestyle.

Ledecky is competing in four total Olympic finals this year. Her last event is the women’s 800m freestyle final on Saturday, where she has a chance for a 14th Olympic medal.

Paris 2024 marks the fourth Olympics for Ledecky, whose international debut began at the 2012 Olympic Games in London when she was just 15 years old.

Now age 27, Ledecky is widely considered the greatest female swimmer of all time. And now she has the hardware to prove it.
