Labour Party Supports US Democrats in Swing States – Scottish Business News
The UK’s Labour Party is sending approximately 100 current and former staff members to assist the Democratic campaign in key US swing states ahead of the November 5 presidential election.
This initiative, lasting about two-and-a-half weeks, will focus on campaigning for Kamala Harris in Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
The move has sparked debate, with Republicans expressing concern about potential impacts on UK-US relations. Elon Musk has also commented on the legality of the action on twitter stating: “This is illegal.”
US election regulations allow foreign volunteers to participate in certain campaign activities as uncompensated volunteers but prohibit them from donating money or participating in decision-making processes.
Labour’s head of operations, Sofia Patel, has been actively recruiting for this effort, arranging housing for volunteers in some locations.
This unprecedented collaboration raises questions about the nature of international involvement in national elections.
