Man Utd tour squad: Sancho, Maguire included but Malacia misses out

Manchester United have named their squad for their pre-season tour of the United States.

New signing Leny Yoro is among those included, alongside Christian Eriksen, Rasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay after they returned to Carrington over the last week following their involvement at the European Championship.

Jadon Sancho is also travelling after Erik ten Hag said the pair had “drawn a line” under their differences. Harry Maguire is included after being left out of Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad having missed the end of last season through injury, and is among a number of senior players in the squad alongside Marcus Rashford and Mason Mount.

Nine senior players in United’s squad are absent from the tour after their participation in Euro 2024 and the Copa America, as they are each entitled to three weeks of mandatory holiday.

Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho are unavailable after helping Argentina to win the Copa America in the U.S., while Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw are also missing after being part of the England side which reached the Euro 2024 final.

New signing Joshua Zirkzee is also not included having been a member of the Netherlands squad who reached the semi-final stage, while Facundo Pellistri is not there after being involved in the Uruguay squad who were beaten by Colombia in the semi-finals of the Copa America.

Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot and Altay Bayindir also miss out after Portugal and Turkey reached the Euro 2024 quarter-finals.

Tyrell Malacia, who missed the entirety of the 2023-24 season through injury, has not travelled as he remains at Carrington to continue his rehabilitation programme.

United assistant coach Steve McClaren will not travel to America with the rest of the squad and will instead remain at Carrington to work with the players returning from international duty.

The club’s new football leadership team — including Sir Dave Brailsford, Omar Berrada, Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox — will join Ten Hag on tour in a bid to foster a close working relationship before the new season.

Ten Hag’s side have already played two pre-season friendly matches, losing 1-0 to Rosenborg in Norway before defeating Rangers 2-0 at Murrayfield — with Amad Diallo and Jordan Hugill both scoring.

United play Arsenal at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California on July 27 before playing Real Betis on July 31 at the Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California.

The tour concludes with a match against Liverpool at the Williams Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina on August 3.

Ahead of the tour, United have also announced that Rasmus Hojlund will wear the No. 9 shirt for the 2024-25 campaign. The striker wore No 11 during his debut season but takes the shirt left vacant by Anthony Martial following his departure this summer. Previous wearers of United’s No 9 shirt include Sir Bobby Charlton, Andy Cole and Dimitar Berbatov.

United will play Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley on August 10 before starting their Premier League campaign at home to Fulham six days later.

Forwards: Antony, Amad, Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Ethan Wheatley.
