A preliminary 3.6 magnitude earthquake struck Newport Beach, California, on Thursday. Tremors were felt in Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, San Joaquin Hills, Fountain Valley, and Irvine. Some Los Angeles residents also reported feeling the tremors.

Volcano Discovery, a website that tracks earthquakes, received several reports from residents who felt the tremor.

“I’m on the 2nd floor at home in east side Costa Mesa and it was the worst earthquake in years. I’ve lived here in Orange County my whole life and have experienced a 6.0. This quake seemed bigger than a 3.6. I hear a fire truck.???” one Costa Mesa resident wrote.

Another resident wrote, “Felt a bump like if something very large had been dropped and the walls seemed to move briefly. I was standing still leaning against the wall.”

A Long Beach resident reported, “House crackedand popping. Slow rolling sway and vertical blinds moved a bit. By El Dorado Park in Long Beach CA.”

A Santa Ana resident added, “Like someone shook me on the shoulder and pushed my chair followed by a smaller rocking motion. All lasting mere seconds.”
