Online casino share of Danish gambling spend increases in September

Gambling spend in Denmark fell by 2.8 per cent in September, with the year-on-year comparison also showing online casino took a bigger share of the market.




The Danish gambling regulator, Spillemyndigheden, said overall spend was down to DKK553m (£62.2m) from DKK569m (£64m) in September 2023.

Online casino, at DKK288m (£32.4m), accounted for the biggest portion of the spend – 52.1 per cent – and this share increased from DKK257m (£28.9m) in September 2023 – which was 45.2 per cent of that month’s total spend.

Conversely, gaming machine spend fell year-on-year to DKK144m (£16.2m) from DKK184m (£20.7m), with the proportion of overall spend for this segment falling to 26 per cent from 32.3 per cent a year ago.

Spend in land-based casinos was more stable but still fell to DKK29m (£3.3m) from DKK32m (£3.6m) a year ago.

Spend in the betting segment also fell from DKK96m (£10.8m) to DKK92m (£10.3m).
