Passenger On Volaris Flight Arrested For Trying To Divert Tijuana Trip Into The United States

This wasn’t the way Volaris passengers expected their morning to go. A flight to Tijuana left from Bajío International Airport in central Mexico at 7:17 am. However, the Airbus A320 was forced to make an emergency landing after a passenger attempted to divert the plane by force.

Thankfully, passengers also stepped in and detained the troubled individual, who managed to crack the emergency door open. No motive just yet on why he attempted to divert the flight into San Diego.

A Flight To Tijuana Made An Emergency Landing At Guadalajara International Airport After A Passenger Tried To Divert The Aircraft “By Force”

Flight 3041 headed towards Tijuana was diverted, making an emergency stop at the Guadalajara International Airport. The Volaris flight from Guanajuato was hijacked on Sunday morning after a passenger attempted to divert the flight towards San Diego. Fox 5 News stated that according to a witness, the passenger was with his wife and children, and used force against a flight attendant.

The passenger was able to grab the handle of the plane door, and threatened to take the flight attendant with him if the flight did not divert towards the US. The passenger managed to crack the door open but was eventually contained by other passengers and crew members.

Volaris issued a statement following the incident, revealing that the passenger had been turned over to the authorities.

“The crew acted according to established security procedures and, according to protocol, the plane was diverted to the airport in Guadalajara, where the airline turned the passenger over to the custody of competent authorities,” Volaris said.

Thankfully, all crew members were safe, including the passengers. The aircraft was not damaged either. Volaris revealed the rest of the passengers were able to complete their trip following the pit-stop.

“The rest of the passengers were protected and able to continue on to their final destination,” said the airline.

In late November, American Airlines saw a similar situation take place after a passenger rushed a 79-year-old flight attendant in an effort to open the cabin door.

Headed towards Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, the Canadian passenger was urging the flight attendant that he needed to exit the plane. Passengers ultimately stepped in, and pinned the person down with duct tape, while restraining his legs and wrists. The flight ultimately wasn’t diverted, and police and the FBI rushed onto the plane once it landed.

American Airlines said in a statement, “The safety and security of our customers and team members is our top priority, and we thank our team members and customers for managing a difficult situation.”

With a busy holiday schedule approaching, safety remains the top priority for all airline companies.
