Rams missed a perfect opportunity to sign QB Daniel Jones | Sporting News

The Los Angeles Rams have overcome a ton of early season injuries and a brutal 1-4 start to at least get back into the playoff picture in the NFC.  They’re also still in the mix for the NFC West.  While starting QB Matthew Stafford still has some gas left in the tank, he’d also be entering his age-37 season in 2025.

The other issue here besides age is that Stafford is banged up nearly every single season, so Sean McVay and Les Snead do need to put some sort of long-term QB plan together, and as silly as it may sound, Daniel Jones could have been that player for them.

On Wednesday, Jones signed with the Minnesota Vikings, and the Vikings already have Sam Darnold and rookie QB JJ McCarthy, so they are just loading up on quarterbacks.  I do wonder why the LA Rams did not make this move.

While we can all kind of see that Daniel Jones isn’t a franchise QB, it would not have been out of the question for him to enjoy the same career arc that Darnold is on himself.  Darnold is playing the best football of his career and is the starting QB of those 9-2 Vikings.

Sean McVay is a plenty good enough head coach to get the most out of a dual-threat QB like Daniel Jones, so them not making a move here is a mistake.  Perhaps McVay and Snead do have a plan, or perhaps they are just going to ride this thing out for a few more years with Matthew Stafford?

Who knows, but signing Daniel Jones would have made them a better team.
