Readers have spoken: Check out the fans’ choices for high school athletes of the century

The votes are in and tallied and here are the results from the Holland Sentinel athletes of the century.

Fans were asked to vote for the player of the century in several sports.

This is what the readers had to say:

Football Offensive Player of the Century: Cooper Terpstra, West Ottawa

One of the most dominant blockers in area history, earned first-team all-state honors before playing at Michigan State.

Football Defensive Player of the Century: Roman Mares, West Ottawa

This quick outside backer was an elite pass rusher and earned Sentinel Defensive Player of the Year. He also earned all-conference and all-state honors before playing Rugby at Davenport.

Girls Swimmer and Diver of the Century: Sadie Huizenga, Zeeland

Was OK Green diving champion three years in a row and earned all-state honors.

Zoe DeKievit, Holland Christian

Earned state runner-up and multiple all-state finishes before swimming at Northern Michigan.

Boys Soccer Player of the Century: Andrew Keizer, Holland Christian

This all-state player and Sentinel Player of the Year used his long legs and vision to distribute the ball where it needed to go.

Volleyball Player of the Century: Reilly Zegunis, Zeeland East

Earned all-state honors as a senior and went on to earn Division I scholarship at Wright State.

Girls Soccer Player of the Century: Kat Perez, Zeeland East

One of the top forwards in the area, had a knack for finding the goal and the angles to get there. Helped transform the Zeeland East program into a postseason contender.

Girls Tennis Player of the Century: Saydee Johns, Holland

One of the top players in Holland history, Johns battled injuries and No. 1 singles competition for multiple years before starring at Hope College.

Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Century: Kylee Poulton, Black River

The top sprinter in area history, won state titles in the 100 and 200 meters. Sentinel Runner of the Year went on to run at Indiana.

Boys Track and Field Athlete of the Century: Benny Diaz, Saugatuck

A dominating force in track and field. Won state championships multiple state championships, including in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 110 hurdles. Was the Sentinel Athlete of the Year twice and went on to run at Michigan.

Softball Player of the Century: Morgan Engelsman, Zeeland West

Was an all-state pitcher and also one of the top hitters in the area for multiple seasons.

Baseball Player of the Century: Cobe Huizenga, Zeeland East

This speedy player for the Chix was all-state and led Zeeland East to a rise the program is still enjoying.
