Recipe for fixing Jets’ surprising Aaron Rodgers-related weakness | Sporting News
As a four-time NFL MVP, Aaron Rodgers was supposed to be the New York Jets‘ biggest strength.
Unfortunately, fresh analysis suggests that the 41-year-old quarterback is actually the team’s biggest weakness.
Identifying each NFL team’s weaknesses on a weekly basis, Bleacher Report listed QB as the Jets’ No. 1 position of weakness followed by safety, interior defensive line, tight end and edge rusher. Rodgers, a sure-fire future Hall-of-Famer, has started every game, but New York has a 3-9 record and is in the verge of being eliminated from playoff contention.
Reportedly banged up throughout the 2024 season, Rodgers ranks 31st amongst NFL passers in yards per attempt (6.3). His 87.5 QB rating is the 24th best mark on the circuit.
It’s been suggested that the Jets rely more heavily on their running backs to take some pressure off the increasingly immobile Rodgers.

New York rushed only 21 times during the Week 13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, moving the chains thrice via the ground game. Meanwhile, Rodgers averaged a mostly-inefficient 4.74 yards per pass over 39 attempts.
Move to Make Now: Run the Ball
Managing Aaron Rodgers is not an easy task. He’s always going to trust his arm to win games, but the truth is that Rodgers had little to no success throwing the ball downfield. According to Next Gen Stats, Rodgers was 2-of-14 on passes that had more than 10 air yards
Yet, Breece Hall and Braelon Allen only had 17 combined carries. That shouldn’t happen in a game they were winning 21-7. Committing to using both Hall and Allen could provide some more consistency with the offense, and they would only be sacrificing the deep passes that haven’t been effective without running the ball anyway. — Bleacher Report
The Jets will have a chance to kickstart the rushing attack during a Week 14 visit to the Miami Dolphins. Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich has already confirmed Rodgers as the starting quarterback for the December 8 divisional affair.
