Richard Gere is set to leave the US and move to Spain with his wife Alejandra Silva and their sons. The Hollywood legend revealed his decision during his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on November 20.

Sharing his relocation plans, the Pretty Woman star jokingly said that he’ll spend his Thanksgiving in Spain this year. “My wife is Spanish and—is this a problem for anybody out there?” he asked, further adding, “She gave me about seven years here, so we’re going to spend some years in Madrid.” The 75-year-old stated that since his kids were bilingual, “they’re gonna flourish there.”

Richard Gere’s reason of leaving the US

Gere’s wife Silva is Spanish. Asserting her roots and how that’ll bring her close to her family, the actor explained, “My wife, she grew up in a very big Spanish family, like a big Italian family… Her grandmother was kind of the glue that held that altogether, and the grandmother passed away about a year and a half ago, two years ago. So my wife, I can see her morphing into the new grandmother of this extended family. She’s already planning for, you know, 35 people for Sunday lunches.”

Actor shared relocation plans earlier

Earlier this year, Gere had spoken about his impending big movie. He told Vanity Fair Spain, “For me, going to Madrid is going to be a great adventure, because I have never lived full-time outside the United States. And I think it will be very interesting for my children as well. For Alejandra, it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends and her culture.”

Hollywood stars leaving the US

This comes after several celebs recently announced of leaving the United States. Recently, Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi moved to England. Even Eva Longoria has been hopping between Mexico and Spain, citing her concerns over the political climate in the US post Donald Trump’s election win.
