Solheim Cup: Georgia Hall hopeful of European wildcard spot to face United States in Virginia

England’s Georgia Hall has her “fingers crossed” that she will be selected as a wildcard pick for Europe’s Solheim Cup team to face the United States next month.

Captain Suzann Pettersen will name her four selections at 17:00 BST on Monday, to add to the eight players already confirmed.

The qualification process concluded after last week’s Women’s Open and Hall narrowly missed out – finishing joint 22nd when a top-20 placing would have seen her book her spot.

“I love being part of the team,” Hall told Sky Sports after the conclusion of round four at St Andrews on Sunday.

“I’ve played in a few. I love playing match play.”

Hall, who qualified automatically for her previous four appearances in the biennial event, added: “I feel that I’m playing pretty decent, so yeah, fingers crossed [I am selected].”

England’s Charley Hull and Esther Henseleit of Germany topped the Ladies European Tour (LET) Solheim Cup points list to confirm their places on the team, while Ireland’s Leona Maguire, France’s Celine Boutier, Carlota Ciganda of Spain and Swedish trio Maja Stark, Linn Grant and Madelene Sagstrom qualified through their world rankings.

US captain Stacy Lewis, who will go up against Pettersen for a second time, is scheduled to announce her team on Tuesday.

Europe go into the 19th staging of the event as the holders, having retained the trophy with a 14-14 draw in Spain last year after winning the previous two editions.

The 2024 Solheim Cup will be held from 13-15 September at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia. The US lead the series 10-7 with one draw.
