Tenacious D Bringing ‘Rock D Vote’ Tour to Bryce Jordan Center

Comedic rock duo Tenacious D will perform at Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center this fall on their “Rock D Vote” tour.

Jack Black and Kyle Gass — the self-proclaimed greatest band on Earth — will take the stage at 8 p.m. on Oct. 26, according to a tour announcement on Wednesday. The show is one of just five the band will play in the United States this year and all proceeds from each will benefit Rock The Vote, the nonpartisan nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting voter registration, education and rights.

Tickets start at $35 and go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday, June 28, through Ticketmaster. A discounted Penn State student presale starts at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 27.

Black and Gass rose through the Los Angeles music scene in the 1990s while also pursuing acting careers. After a short-run “Tenacious D” HBO series developed a cult following, the duo released their platinum-selling, self-titled debut album in 2001, which included contributions from Dave Grohl and Phish’s Page McConnell. The album spawned the singles “Wonderboy” and “Tribute,” the latter showcased in a music video starring JB and KG battling the devil, played by Grohl.

Even as Black became a movie star, the D carried on. Their self-mythologizing comedy, “Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny,” was accompanied by an album of the same name in 2006, and another LP, “Rize of the Fenix,” followed in 2012. The 2018 album “Post-Apocalypto” was released alongside a similarly titled YouTube series.

Since then the band has released a series of singles. Their most recent is a cover of Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time” appearing on the soundtrack to “Kung Fu Panda 4,” which stars Black as the voice of Po.

Tenacious D’s four other dates on the U.S. tour are Oct. 21 in Columbus, Ohio; Oct. 22 in Bloomington, Indiana; Oct. 23 in Madison, Wisconsin; and Oct. 25 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

This story previously stated a portion of the proceeds will benefit Rock the Vote. It has been updated to reflect that all proceeds will benefit Rock the Vote.
