US adds 256K jobs in December as unemployment slides lower
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported an addition of 256,000 nonfarm payroll jobs in the month of December, well above economist expectations of 165,000. Average hourly wages fell by 0.1%, now sitting at 3.9%. Additionally, the unemployment rate moved lower to 4.1%, which was initially expected to hold steady at 4.2% month-over-month.
