US Presidential Election 2024 Live: Harris, Trump go toe to toe in frenzied final campaign weekend

In the closing days of this historic US presidential race, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are traversing swing states in a final push to sway undecided voters. Harris, aiming to make history as the nation’s first female president, is focusing her campaign events in Georgia, North Carolina and Michigan, emphasising her concerns about Trump’s impact on democratic institutions.

Trump, at 78, is pursuing a dramatic return to the White House despite his 2020 defeat and criminal convictions. His campaign promotes a conservative restructuring of government and assertive trade policies under his “America first” agenda.

The candidates’ paths nearly intersect, with Trump’s Friday appearance in Milwaukee occurring close to Harris’s event. Their itineraries continue through North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Georgia.

The intense campaigning extends until Monday evening, concluding with Trump in Grand Rapids, Michigan, whilst Harris holds her final rally in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Though Election Day is set for Tuesday, early voting has been substantial, with over 70 million votes already cast. Georgia alone has recorded four million early votes, as Democrats work to maintain their hold on the state.

Polling data indicates a close contest, particularly in seven crucial battleground states that could determine the electoral college outcome. Both candidates are working diligently to attract supporters from opposing camps.

Harris, serving as Biden’s vice president, combines outreach to moderate voters with strong grassroots mobilisation efforts. She characterises Trump as a threat to democracy, urging voters to move forward.

“He is someone who is increasingly unstable, obsessed with revenge, consumed with grievance — and the man is out for unchecked power,” she declared to supporters in Little Chute, Wisconsin.
