US Elections 2024: Donald Trump defeats Kamala Harris in Arizona, secures all seven battleground states – World News
US President-elect Donald Trump has secured a victory in Arizona, defeating his Democratic opponent Kamala Harris in all seven battleground states. The key battleground states in this election cycle were Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia.
Trump’s win in Arizona boosts his Electoral College total to 312, compared to Harris’s 226. Arizona, with its 11 electoral votes, was a crucial win for Trump. Trump is set to be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20.
Arizona is the sixth state Trump has flipped from Biden’s 2020 win, following Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Trump also won North Carolina, a state he narrowly carried in 2020.
Republicans regain senate, near house majority
In addition, the Republican Party has regained control of the Senate, holding 52 seats to the Democrats’ 47. In the House of Representatives, Republicans have secured 216 seats, just two short of the majority threshold of 218, with confidence that they will surpass this mark.
Trump’s victory in Arizona marks a reversal of the state’s 2020 trend, where President Joe Biden became the first Democrat to win there since Bill Clinton in 1996. Trump flipped Arizona back with a campaign focused on border security, immigration, and crime linked to illegal immigration—issues that resonated strongly in the state, which saw a record influx of migrants last year. He pledged mass deportations, increased border patrols, and proposed using military funds for border security.
