US Embassy reports increased threats of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure
“Due to increased threats from Russian missiles and drones targeting Ukraine’s critical civilian infrastructure, the US Embassy in Kyiv urges US citizens to exercise heightened caution,” the press service emphasized.
At the same time, the embassy called on all American citizens to follow the Ukrainian government’s alerts regarding air attacks and to monitor the air alert app on their cell phones.
“US citizens should abide by all government curfews and quickly follow instructions and seek shelter during air alerts,” the embassy added.
Recommendations for citizens:
- determine the location of shelters before the air raid;
- download a reliable air raid alert program to your mobile phone;
- take shelter immediately if an air raid is announced;
- follow updates in local media;
- keep water, food, and medical supplies;
- follow the instructions of Ukrainian officials and first responders in the event of an emergency.
Last month the US Embassy in Kyiv was temporarily closed. This happened after reports of a possible “serious attack” on Ukraine on November 20.
Spain and Italy also announced the temporary closure of their embassies in Kyiv, citing the threat of Russian attacks. Later, Greece also announced the closure of its embassy in Kyiv.
In his evening address, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to reports of a serious attack in Ukraine. The head of state emphasized that such panic messages only help the aggressor country, Russia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine condemned the closure of foreign embassies in Kyiv. The foreign ministry spoke of “informational exaggeration”.
